Branch Automation Is Alive Again

It seems branch automation applications have been around forever, but not defined properly, and little understood. Cheapskate bankers didn’t care to spend money on it for two reasons: 1) It had to do with sales and service, something bankers believe should be an instinct, not a technology. 2) They also believed, wrongly, that it had to do with opening new accounts, period.

In the current financial market, almost no industry, including banking, is immune to employee layoffs, reductions in force or terminations. Employees who are laid off can possess, or be privy to, numerous types of confidential or trade secret information. They may have information about your bank’s finances, mergers and acquisitions, future plans, technology and other sensitive data. What is to stop those employees from going to work for a competing bank and using the confidential information that your bank worked hard to develop? The answer is a covenant (or agreement) not to compete.

ATM Fraud Scheme Comes Crashing Down

Only in New York. And New Jersey. And Pennsylvania. A foursome of so-called “financial whizzes” apparently worked together on a multi-year ATM scheme which, according to reports by the New York Post, bilked banks in these states of up to $1 million.

You say that’s a contradiction of terms do you? Well I’m here to tell you they can work with a strong dose of discipline from the deployers. Although it’s a good thing that we can do lots of chores, it’s also essential that we do each one with dedication. To bring this to a very down-to-earth level, let me use the example of chores around the home. There’s always something to fix when you own a home (or two) that don’t lend themselves to hiring Conrad Contractor. So when I’m up on a ladder clearing a leaves-clogged downspout, I have no desire to engage in small talk with Ned Neighbor who is walking his dog and thinks I should be his entertainment for 10 minutes. I’ve got eight things to do today, but the downspout has 100 percent of my attention right now. Get lost, Ned.
